Research

The research of the DDC is oriented towards the development of technology, animal models and the discovery and targeting of various molecular targets in the nervous system and beyond. Based on the existing expertise in the DDC G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) and ligand-gated ion channels (LGIC) are an important focus within the DDC.

DDC highlight

One of the DDC research lines is directed towards the discovery of new compounds acting at LGICs, comprising the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, the GABAA-, and 5HT3 receptors.

Starting with unique X-ray data of the extracellular ligand-binding domain of an acetylcholine receptor, expertise in computational chemisty, medicinal chemistry, screening technology and neuroscience is aligned to find new chemical entities to modulate ion channel function.
